Games and Recreation on Campus
In this section, we cover approved common-area games, recreation spaces, Wizard’s Duel, and expectations for courteous play.

Games and Recreation on Campus
The Campus includes approved games and recreational areas where pupils may pass time, practice strategy, and enjoy fellowship between classes, events, meetings, and Lodge activities. These activities are part of the ordinary social life of the University, but they remain within a governed academic environment and should be used with courtesy, patience, and respect for others.
Recreation on Campus should support good humor, shared experience, and appropriate fellowship. It should not interfere with classes, meetings, study areas, Lodge activity, public programs, or the work of Faculty and Administration. Pupils using recreational spaces should follow posted rules, respect the purpose of the area, and remember that conduct during play still reflects upon the Grey School.
Common-Area Games
Approved games may be found at Station Circle and Club Annex 1. Current offerings include Amazons, Giant’s Causeway, Maasai Chess, and Wizard’s Duel. These games provide opportunities for strategic play, observation, timing, and friendly competition.
Each game provides its own instructions or notecard, and pupils should review the rules before beginning. Some games are simple diversions, while others reward careful planning and sustained attention. Pupils should allow others a fair opportunity to play, avoid monopolizing tables when others are waiting, and keep competition honorable and good-natured.
Wizard’s Duel
Wizard’s Duel is a Grey School game designed as an exercise in reasoning, observation, composure, and the balance between Power, Defense, and Technique. It also recognizes Lodge identity through the Campus armguard system, allowing Lodge Patron Favor and related effects to appear in play.
Because Wizard’s Duel draws upon Grey School symbolism and instructional design, pupils should treat it as both a game and a small exercise in applied judgment. Victory is not meant to come from force alone, but from reading the field, choosing the proper moment, and understanding the relationship between pressure and restraint.
Berserker Arena
The Berserker Arena is a designated area for approved recreation, competition, and structured activity. Its purpose is more active than table play, and pupils should review the rules and instructions associated with the arena before participating.
Berserker may be addressed in greater detail through posted Campus instructions or a separate guide. Pupils using the arena should keep play fair, contained, and appropriate to the University environment. Competitive activity should not become harassment, disruption, or an excuse for conduct that would be unacceptable elsewhere on Campus.
Expectations for Recreational Use
Games and recreational spaces are provided for enjoyment, fellowship, and appropriate competition. Pupils should use them in a way that strengthens Campus life rather than distracts from it.
Recreational activity should remain within the area intended for it. Noise, disruptive attachments, excessive effects, lingering arguments, or interference with nearby classes and events may result in the activity being paused or restricted. Faculty, Administration, or Porters may close or limit a recreational area when necessary for safety, technical stability, scheduled programming, or the good order of the Campus.
Used well, games and recreation give pupils a way to relax, meet others, practice strategic thought, and share time between the more formal parts of University life. They should remain friendly, grounded, and consistent with the academic character of the Grey School.
