Grading Guidelines

The following guidelines are provided to help Psyche, Apprentices and Magisters understand what to expect in terms of grading:

  1. The maximum grade achievable is 100%. Exceptional work may be recognized with a Merit point. Additionally, instructors may award a Dean's List nomination for outstanding performance in a class. Achieving 100% is rare and indicates a nearly perfect submission, signifying exceptional mastery.

  2. The minimum passing grade is 80%. Any score below this threshold will be marked as a fail by the system.

  3. The age of the Apprentice should be considered in all grading.

  4. Grading is aligned with the standards used in American middle and high schools, resulting in the following grade ranges:

    • 80-82% = B-

    • 83-86% = B

    • 87-89% = B+

    • 90-92% = A-

    • 93-96% = A

    • 97-100% = A+

  5. In terms of letter grades, “A” represents “Excellent” and “B” indicates “Above Average.” An “A” equates to a 4.0 in a system where a perfect score is 4.0, and an “A+” is a mark of distinction. A “B” is equivalent to a 3.0.

  6. Essays meeting only the basic requirements, particularly those offering minimal length and no original insight, should receive a grade no higher than B- or B.

  7. Responses that show the beginnings of original thought or insight can merit a grade in the B to B+ range.

  8. Extensive, well-researched answers warrant grades in the “A” range. Grades of 90-94% are for work with limited original insight, while 95-100% are for deeply insightful, extensive work. A grade of 100% is reserved for work that is exceptionally well-researched and insightful.

  9. Grades of 80% or higher on assignments or final exams are final and cannot be retaken for a higher score, unless the original grade was a failing score of 79% or less.

  10. To pass a lesson, or pass a class and earn credits, Apprentices must achieve at least an 80% score.

Completing a Class

To successfully complete a class and receive credit, Apprentices must:

  1. Complete all assignments with a score of 80% or better.

  2. Achieve a score of 80% or better on the final exam.

  3. Submit a class evaluation.

Once these steps are completed, the class will be marked as finished, and credits will be awarded.
