Cohort Program Launches with Strong Start!

The Grey School of Wizardry launched a new tool in its academic approach this term with the introduction of the vGSW Cohort Program, which is a live-taught curriculum designed to bring Apprentices and faculty together in a structured, collaborative format. The program builds on the School’s long-standing model of self-paced study, adding a new option for those who prefer a guided path and regular engagement within a shared course sequence.

Held weekly on the virtual campus, the Cohort Program allows Apprentices to progress together through a series of classes led by faculty. Each session combines lecture, discussion, and direct interaction, encouraging dialogue and immediate feedback. The program’s debut course, Colors of Magick, concluded this month to strong participation and enthusiasm.

Participating as an instructor in the Colors of Magick class on the vGSW campus as part of the inaugural launch of our new Cohort Program has been one of the most inspiring and engaging experiences of my career as a wizardly educator so far,” Remarked Master Meighen, who serves as the School's Master of Studies, “The setting of the vGSW Campus comes to life with every question, every shared joke, and every moment of realization.

For many Apprentices, the shift to real-time instruction has reintroduced a sense of shared purpose that is difficult to replicate in asynchronous learning. Meighen noted, “When a question arises during lecture, it can be asked and answered immediately. This fluid exchange keeps the flow of understanding moving and ensures that no Apprentice is left behind or uncertain.

Beyond its practicality, the Cohort structure also strengthens the sense of belonging that defines the School’s community. Regular meetings allow Apprentices to learn not only from faculty but from one another, trading perspectives and insights that expand the scope of discussion. “The energy of these live sessions heightens focus and engagement,” said Master Meighen. “Watching Apprentices connect ideas and bring personal insight into the conversation makes the material feel immediately applicable.

This model represents a thoughtful balance between tradition and modernity. While the program makes full use of virtual tools, its structure mirrors the classic method of learning through mentorship, and shared inquiry. “The Cohort Program has shown that learning can flourish in virtual space without losing its depth or community,” Master Meighen remarked. “It bridges the tradition of teaching at GSW with more contemporary tools, ensuring that our work remains relevant to the world our Apprentices actually live in.

The success of this first course signals that the Cohort Program is a step forward in shaping how the School approaches learning. As the next round of courses prepares to open, both Faculty and Apprentices alike can look toward a future where live collaboration and academic rigor continue to define education here at GSW.

Registration for our next cohort, beginning on March 23rd 2026, is now open! Apprentices interested in joining the upcoming Cohort can learn more at: www.greyschool.org/cohorts
