Lodge Council Chronicle - Feb 26'

The Lodge Council Chronicle

Each month, our Lodge Council gathers it voices into this Chronicle as a place to speak to their Lodges, and to the wider School. We encourage you to read their words and should you have any questions, please reach out to your Lodge Prefect. As always, we begin with a word from the Captain...

A Word from Our Captain

Dear Apprentices and Faculty,

The holidays are done, our new year goals are set, and the darkness of winter is still rearing its ugly head. It has been a time of reflection, pondering what works and doesn’t work, and exploring what the new year has in store for us.

And in doing so, we might discover there are areas in our lives where we cannot go at them alone. Another’s view of things might be just what we need to reflect on and move forward. We might require rest, a new outlook on something we’ve been struggling with, or find just what we need to understand the way ahead.

We might realize that old ways of thinking are no longer needed or do not serve us in the long run. This may mean we need to set boundaries and create a new, sacred space. And in that new space, we need to find room to grow and change, to blossom in the spring ahead. Like the trees, which bud, blossom, and change throughout the entire year, so do we have this rhythm of life.

The ups and downs of our lives, and how we react to and manage them, create the rhythm of our lives. While we often focus on our own skills to get through them, we forget that we have a community around us, the school, and those who wish us to succeed.

The Grey School will always be there to welcome you home.

Captain Abbie

Winds Lodge

Hello there Winds Lodge!

This term is starting to wrap up so fast! The Winds Moot is coming up in March! Thank you, Apprentices Burkey and Sidlar for assisting in preparation! To any others interested in participating, please reach out!

Further, the Winds has been solidly behind the Shadows, and I'm proud of us for being ahead of the others for so long! It's insane how many points Shadows has, but we'd been quite comfortably above the rest!

Which brings me to this last month's representatives of our fair lodge! Thank you very much to Apprentices Dustin Kimberlin, Robert B., Courtney Wise, Hildebern, Sindri, Burkey, Jack in the Sea, Minerva, and Sidlar! The merits you've all earned for our fair lodge have helped prove my motto: Winds Lodge, Best Lodge!

Further, everyone, check out the common merits page in the handbook! Reach out to me for assistance! You can get merits for all sorts of things besides simple classes and moots! Apprentice Minerva had earned us merits for completing a Japanese class outside of Grey School! All you have to do is tie in what you're already working on with the common merits and I'll help orchestrate the earning accordingly! A wizard takes responsibility AND credit, right? Allow me to give you the credit you deserve to bring our lodge to greater heights!

That's all I have for now, Winds! Come pop by Wednesday Winds-Day if you wish to check in with me, or message on Discord!

Cheers!

- Prefect James Perkins

Shadows Lodge

Dear wizards,

A new year began just over a month ago, and this month has been rich in new energies,

introspection, and very full overall. We had an exceptional moot that lasted several hours, as

well as multiple berserker tournaments. There was also a lecture on lucid dreaming and hypnosis, in addition to the various events that take place each week.

By the way, the study hour with our dear Vice-Captain is back, so don’t hesitate to take

advantage of that time to sit down and make progress in your studies though the same could be said for the different events that allow you to relax and step away from the hectic pace that

everyday life can create.

As for this month, there’s a new berserker tournament on February 7 at 4 PM EST, and the

following day at 5 PM EST, there’s the Stones Lodge moot so feel free to come have fun, but

also to show your support.

Yours in service,

Prefect Flaming Phoenix

Stones Lodge

Welcome to February, Stones!

Congratulations to January’s Champions:

-          Angel Rowe

-          William Goldsmith

-          Bobbi Diaz

-          Jim Rodger

Great job keeping up on your Champions Boons!

Our very own Stones Moot is on the 8th featuring three of our own putting on some presentations! But one day before that we have the final Berserker Meet before the semi-finals start on the 7th at 4 PM EST. Then there’s the return of the Wizard’s Study Hour to a Monday through Friday schedule at the Scholar’s Garden on vGSW at 4 PM EST (instead of it just being once a week). Check the GSW Events Calendar for these events and more!

With less than fifty days left in this term, make sure that you are on track with your academic goals. Be sure to post your class completions for this term on the pinned post on the Stones Forum and there are still ample opportunities to earn merits with the Common Merit Attempts list in your GSW Handbook.

Along with the winding down of this term, we start to look towards the future of our Lodge. Apprentice Leadership awaits those of Year 2 and above who wish to expand their leadership skills as well as earn service hours for their graduation requirement (See the Handbook for details). It is a great honor to serve our Lodge and encourage all to give it a try! Contact me or Master Kayser with your interest. We will help you.

-VC Asher Blackwood, Stones Prefect

Flames Lodge

Well Met, Flames to the second month of the year, and another step on our way to new knowledge and discovery.

I'd like to start our newsletter with a warm welcome to our new member, Apprentice Katrina G! I hope you enjoy your time at GSW, and your fellow Lodge members and Leadership are here to assist should you require us.

Our New Years Moot went well this year with myself and Captain Abbie presenting - and much fun in the bike races and faculty panels! Should you be interested in becoming a presenter for the next moot (End of Term Moot), please don't hesitate to reach out to me and I shall put you on my list!

We fought hard at Berserker at Meet 4 against the Undines - sadly losing at 52 to 20! Keen to take part in friendly inter-lodge competition? Prefect Marcus Cerri runs a practice session every other Friday in the Millstone Tavern - a great opportunity to spend some time meeting Apprentices and improving your skills.

Interested in joining the team? Feel free to reach out, and I can alert you of matches ahead of time.

Lodge Competition wise, we are sitting at 4th behind the Stones - many thanks to those who responded to the Headmaster's Pop Up Merit Challenge, along with those attaining 95% on your classes; I'm hoping we can climb up the Leaderboard with the next Merit Challenge!

Enjoy your studies, and keep your inner flames burning,

Prefect Gabriel Ravenway

Waters Lodge

Dear Waters,

Here we are once again for our usual monthly newsletter. I hope your studies are progressing well. On my side, I am currently working on the Prefect Project, which I aim to complete by the end of this term.

I would like to sincerely thank you for your continued participation in our weekly events. I truly hope that many more Waters Lodge members will feel encouraged to take a more active role in the activities on the vGSW campus, so that we can further strengthen the bonds within our Lodge.

I would also like to remind everyone of a fundamental daily action: please make sure to visit the Commons Area at least once a day to click the Unicorn Counter. This is extremely important for the Lodge Competition at the end of the term, to gain additional merits and directly support our Lodge’s overall standing.

I am very proud of the results we are achieving in the Berserker Tournament— Go Go Undines!

As always, I remind you I'm fully available should you need any support or assistance.

Regarding the “Tides of the Month,” this month’srecognition goes to Apprentice Fred, for his constant participation in the weekly Study Groups, as well as for his involvement and outstanding presentation during the New Year’s Moot.

I would like to conclude this newsletter by sending you all a warm embrace and by thanking you once again for the excellent work you have done so far.

Yours in service,

Prefect Marcus Cerri
