The School's Next Chapter

By Headmaster Kingsley

Well met friends and followers all,

I hope the day finds each of you in good health and high spirits!

I wanted to take a moment to follow up on the community address scheduled for June 28th at 8:00 PM Eastern Time on the School Discord. Since the first announcement went out, I've been reflecting on how best to frame the importance of this gathering, because while the subject is serious, it's also full of possibility for the future of the Grey School of Wizardry.

The world around education is changing quickly, and schools that wish to endure must be willing to look honestly at those changes. GSW has always been at its strongest when it has treated wizardry as a living discipline, one that asks us to think clearly and adapt with purpose.

The years ahead will require that same spirit from us as an institution.

This address will speak to the direction of the School and the ways we can preserve the heart of our work while continuing to grow with wisdom. Our foundation of online lessons has carried us for more than two decades, and that history deserves respect. At the same time, the next chapter of the School will ask us to consider how pupils best learn, how Faculty best teach, and how GSW can remain meaningful in a changing educational world...

The address will take place on the School Discord on June 28th at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Please mark your calendars, and I look forward to your presence.

Wizardly Regards,

vGSW On the Go!

By Headmaster Kingsley

Well met Friends and followers all!

vGSW is now avialable on the Go!

The Grey School’s virtual campus has always been at its best when our community can gather and learn with one another. With SL Mobile now available, pupils and faculty have a lighter way to stay connected to vGSW when they’re away from their desks.

SL Mobile won’t quite replace the full desktop Second Life experience, and some campus tools will still work best from a regular viewer. Even so, it opens a useful door for you to check messages, speak with others, find your way to class, explore the campus, and remain part of GSW life from your phone.

New vGSW Update: "Campus Standing"

By Headmaster Kingsley

Well met Wizards one and all,

I hope the day finds Everyone in good health and high spirits!

I’m pleased to share that a rather substantial update has now gone live across vGSW, and indeed, across GSW as a whole in some respects. This update brings together several systems we’ve been building toward for some time, including the new Campus Standing system, the new Lodge Patron system, Lodge Beacons, expanded Wiznet v2 support, and a number of smaller improvements around the vGSW campus.

To begin with, I’d like to speak about our new GSW-wide system:

"Campus Standing."

One of the larger pieces now taking shape through Wiznet v2 is Campus Standing, a new structure designed to recognize continued participation and meaningful engagement with The Grey School of Wizardry. At present, Campus Standing is earned through supported activity in vGSW. Classrooms, club spaces, and the Lecture Hall can now award Campus Standing Progress Credit when a Faculty member is present, and additional campus systems will continue to make use of it as the framework develops. This means that time spent participating in the life of the School, attending classes, joining events, and making use of vGSW as a living campus can now contribute to a visible measure of involvement.

Campus Standing is new, but it’s not intended to remain only a vGSW feature. Over time, this will grow into a wider Grey School system used beyond the virtual campus. The long-term purpose is to help recognize those who are actively becoming part of the School’s culture, not simply passing through its outer doors. The Grey School has always valued self-starting pupils, steady involvement, good conduct, and a willingness to participate in the community as well as the coursework. Campus Standing gives us a practical way to begin reflecting those qualities across our systems.

This summer, for instance, we’ll be holding an event at Highspire that will require at least Campus Standing Tier 3 to attend. Highspire is the School’s physical campus, and events there ask a bit more from everyone involved in terms of planning, conduct, and even a few shared responsibilities. Campus Standing gives pupils a clear and fair path toward those opportunities by recognizing steady participation in supported School spaces before attending certain in-person gatherings.

To my earlier point, Campus Standing gives people a pathway into deeper participation. It gives pupils a chance to become known through action and steady engagement before stepping into more intimate or responsibility-bearing spaces. It also helps protect the culture of the School by ensuring that special opportunities are connected to demonstrated involvement rather than simple availability.

Right now, vGSW is the primary place where Campus Standing is earned. That makes sense at this stage because vGSW is, after all, our active virtual campus and one of the clearest places where presence and community engagement can be observed. In time, we’ll look at expanding how Campus Standing may be earned and recognized through other parts of GSW life, including places like the forums and Discord server, but for now the path begins in vGSW.

This is one of the reasons the current update matters. Classrooms, club spaces, the Lecture Hall, Lodge systems, and select campus tools are becoming part of a larger structure that rewards involvement and helps each of you build your place within the School over time. Campus Standing gives us a way to recognize not only what someone has paid for or signed up for, but how they’re actually participating in the living culture of The Grey School of Wizardry.

The other major piece of this update is the new Lodge Patron system, which is now active across all five Lodges. On the surface, this appears as an interactive system of statues, offerings, boons, tiers, and Lodge Beacons. Beneath that, however, is a much older occult idea being given a practical vGSW campus form.

The Lodge Patron Statues outside your Lodge Halls on vGSW now serve as visible focal points for that current.

The Salmon of Waters, the Dragon of Flames, the Raven of Winds, the Wolf of Stones, and the Stag of Shadows act as symbolic centers through which each Lodge may tend to its own shared presence. When members make offerings, gather in their Lodge, activate their Beacon, and participate in the life of the School, they are taking part in a lesson about how group identity is fed, shaped, strengthened, and sustained over time.

This is why the Patron system includes progress, decay, and stewardship. After all, an egregore is strengthened through continued attention and meaningful participation, and it weakens when neglected. A Lodge’s shared spirit is not built by one dramatic act, nor does it remain healthy through sentiment alone, my good Wizards. It is something maintained.

In vGSW, this principle now has a working form. Eligible Lodge members may make Wizcoin offerings to their Patron in amounts of 1, 5, or 10 Wizcoins. These offerings increase the Patron’s boon progress, now displayed above each statue with a progress bar. As the Patron grows stronger, it rises through five visible tiers, each unlocking stronger benefits for members of that Lodge.

There is also a hidden sixth state, which may be awakened by the Captain of that Patron’s Lodge once the Patron reaches full strength. This is not because the Captain alone defines the Lodge’s spiritual current, but because the office of Captain carries a special relationship to the Lodges as a whole. When a member of a Lodge rises to Captain, that Lodge is honored through their service, leadership, and visible trust within the School. In the Patron system, that honor is reflected symbolically through the Patron itself.

If the Patron falls below full strength, that hidden state must be awakened again. This keeps the honor tied to active stewardship rather than a permanent trophy. A Lodge may be proud to see one of its own serving as Captain, but the Patron still requires continued attention, offering, and care from the Lodge community.

This also gives us a useful place to speak more directly about the occult mechanics being represented here. Under the Spiritual Model of magick, spirits, egregores, and other noncorporeal intelligences are approached as forces with their own character and patterns of relationship. Work done through this model depends on observation, reciprocity, and careful conduct. An offering then becomes a gesture of attention, a transfer of value, and a declaration of relationship between the practitioner and the spirit or force being approached or invoked.

In that sense, the new Patron system gives pupils a practical lesson in how spiritual relationships are tended over time. The offering of Wizcoins stands in for the occult principle of giving energy or value to a spiritual current. The Patron’s response reflects the idea that such currents are strengthened through repeated contact and meaningful participation. When the Lodge tends its Patron, the Patron’s influence grows stronger within the supported systems of that Lodge. When the Lodge neglects its Patron, that strength begins to fade.

This is also why the system uses progress, decay, tiers, and boons. These are campus mechanics, yes, but they are built around a serious occult principle: spiritual forces and egregoric presences are sustained through relationship. A Lodge Patron becomes powerful through the accumulated pattern of offerings, attention, participation, memory, and conduct given to it by the Lodge community. In essence, its strength is shaped by what the Lodge repeatedly feeds into it.

The hidden sixth state expands this idea further. When one of a Lodge’s members rises to the office of Captain, that achievement becomes part of the Lodge’s legacy. It honors the Lodge and strengthens its reputation, thus giving its Patron a special point of pride within the symbolic life of the School. The Captain’s awakening of the hidden state reflects that bond between personal service, Lodge honor, and the Patron itself.

Taken together, it is my hope that the Patron system on vGSW gives each of you a visible and working lesson in the Spiritual Model. It teaches that these relationships must be maintained through care, respect, offering, and, perhaps most importantly of all, consistency. It also reminds us that power in this model is relational. The practitioner does not simply command the spirit and walk away. They build a pattern of trust and exchange.

In vGSW, each Lodge now has a visible way to practice that principle together.

With that occult framework in mind, the vGSW mechanics are designed to give the lesson a working campus form. The Patrons now use Wiznet v2 recognition, allowing them to respond differently to Faculty, Captains, Vice-Captains, Prefects, same-Lodge members, and visitors from other Lodges. Same-Lodge Prefects may offer to their Patron once every 6 hours, while regular same-Lodge members may offer once every 12 hours. Faculty, Captains, and Vice-Captains may make offerings to any Patron. This allows leadership to support the wider system while still keeping the heart of each Patron rooted in its own Lodge.

Alongside the Patron system, each Lodge now has a Lodge Beacon in the form of an open book in their Lodge Commons. These Beacons serve as the first major system to draw directly from the strength of the Lodge Patron, turning the care given to the Patron into practical support for Lodge members gathered in that space.

Beacon activation is available to Captains, Vice-Captains, and the Prefect of the configured Lodge, with Faculty retaining oversight controls. Before activation, the Beacon provides a clear confirmation window showing the current Patron tier, active duration, pulse interval, reward amount, parcel limitation, and cooldown. This gives Lodge leadership a full understanding of what they are activating before the boon begins.

Once active, the Beacon provides benefits to those within their Lodge's commons or meeting rooms. Beacon activations have a 6-hour cooldown, and their strength grows with the Patron’s current tier. At higher tiers, Beacons last longer and provide stronger benefits, with the highest tiers adding Wizcoin rewards. When an eligible member receives a Beacon reward, they will also receive a private message letting them know whether they received Progress Credit or Wizcoins.

<To support Lodge leadership in using these new tools properly, a guide explaining the Patron and Beacon systems has been placed in each Prefect’s office.>

A few campus quality improvements have also been made alongside these larger systems. Minor graphical and environmental updates have been completed around vGSW to improve clarity and polish. Sign posts have been updated to reflect current location names, and a new sign post has been added at the base of the Winds Lodge path to provide better direction. Train stations have also been updated with corrected flavor text, and the reset cost for the train is now dependent on Campus Standing tier, with upper tiers reducing cost.

Taken together, these changes are meant to make vGSW feel more alive and connected to the life of the School. Campus Standing gives us a growing framework for recognizing participation while The Patron and Beacon systems give the Lodges a stronger sense of shared stewardship.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to help make vGSW an active and meaningful part of The Grey School of Wizardry. These systems will continue to grow over time, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how each Lodge tends its Patron and builds its presence within the campus.

Wizardly Regards,

Headmaster Kingsley ᛞ

P.S.

As a note to those worried they may not be able to take part, or that it may affect their Lodge mates, rest assured that this does not affect Lodge Competition scoring. A pupil’s lack of Campus Standing will not weigh down their Lodge, reduce Lodge points, or harm the efforts of their fellow Lodge members. Campus Standing is not being used as a punishment system, nor is it meant to make casual participation feel burdensome. Rather, it will shape access to certain social opportunities, special systems, and experiences where a stronger connection to the School’s culture is appropriate.

Last month's solution:

June 2026 Astrological Forecast

By Grey Matters Staff

June 2026 turns the page with a flourish. The opening weeks may appear calm enough, but beneath the surface the planets are gathering momentum. By the time the month reaches its midpoint, the heavens begin rearranging at remarkable speed. Seven major astrological developments arrive within just two weeks, creating one of the most concentrated periods of change in the year.

Beginning around June 15, formerly calm events accelerate. A New Moon, multiple planetary ingresses, Mercury's retrograde station, Jupiter's move into Leo, and a powerful Full Moon all arrive in rapid succession. As a result life may feel less like a straight road and more like a series of unexpected twists and turns.

At the heart of the month stands one particularly important milestone. On June 19, Chiron leaves Aries and enters Taurus, ending one chapter and beginning another. For many people, especially those influenced by the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, this transition may feel especially freeing. Themes of healing, vulnerability, and personal struggle that have demanded constant attention begin to loosen their grip.

For the fixed signs, however, the story is just beginning. Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, and Aquarius enter a new cycle that will unfold over several years. Taurus, in particular, may find itself examining questions of self-worth, security, physical wellbeing, and personal resources with unusual depth. Chiron's lessons are rarely dramatic in the moment, but they often leave lasting marks that ultimately become sources of wisdom.

The second major turning point arrives at month's end. On June 30, Jupiter enters Leo, beginning a year-long period that promises growth, visibility, confidence, and opportunity for many fire and air signs. Where Chiron asks difficult questions, Jupiter opens doors. Together, these two transitions create a fascinating contrast between healing the past and embracing future possibilities.

Bright Spots in the Month

June is not without its gifts. In fact, some of the year's most promising alignments occur during these weeks.

Early in the month, Mercury's supportive connection with Chiron encourages meaningful conversations and emotional breakthroughs. Difficult topics may finally become easier to discuss and misunderstandings that once seemed impossible to resolve can begin to soften.

Professional matters receive a boost around June 2, when the Sun forms a harmonious aspect with Saturn. Practicality and patience are rewarded. Agreements reached now tend to have staying power, making this an excellent time for negotiations, planning, and commitments that require a solid foundation.

One of the month's most attractive influences arrives on June 9, when Venus joins forces with Jupiter. This is the sort of aspect astrologers eagerly circle on the calendar. Generosity and opportunity go hand-in-hand and financial or emotional concerns that have lingered in recent months may finally reveal workable solutions.

Romance receives a noticeable lift as Venus enters Leo on June 13. Relationships become warmer, more expressive, and more theatrical. Creative projects likewise benefit from a greater willingness to take risks and stand out from the crowd.

Midmonth brings another welcome development as Venus forms a harmonious connection with Uranus. Unexpected encounters, surprising opportunities, and pleasant financial developments become more likely. Sometimes the most rewarding opportunities arrive without warning, and this aspect specializes in exactly that sort of surprise.

June 17 may prove especially memorable for matters of the heart. Venus harmonizes with Neptune, creating an atmosphere rich with compassion and emotional sensitivity. Love stories and artistic inspiration flow freely. The challenge, of course, is distinguishing genuine passion from wishful thinking, but for a day or two the distinction may feel delightfully unimportant.

Toward the end of the month, Venus forms a stabilizing trine with Saturn, helping relationships and financial arrangements find firmer footing. What begins under this influence often possesses greater durability than the fleeting passions associated with more dramatic transits.

The final days of June bring another surge of momentum. Mars forms a productive aspect with Jupiter, encouraging initiative and confidence. Goals that once seemed distant suddenly appear attainable. Combined with Jupiter's entry into Leo on June 30, the atmosphere shifts decisively toward growth and possibility.

The Moon's Two Important Messages

The New Moon in Gemini on June 15 arrives with a constructive and forward-looking tone. Communication, learning, travel, writing, networking, and agreements receive fresh energy. New conversations can lead to meaningful opportunities and ideas that have been developing quietly may finally be ready to take shape.

Then comes the Full Moon on June 30, one of the year's most consequential lunations. Falling across the Cancer-Capricorn axis, it highlights themes of home and ambition, private life and public responsibility, emotional needs and practical obligations.

The Interplay of Human Perception with Noncorporeal Intelligences

By Grey Matters Staff

Apprentices and readers who are interested in the topic of how human perception interacts with noncorporeal intelligences such as spirits, deities, and the like may find a new academic paper published by GSW's Master of Studies, Master Meighen, to be of interest.

This paper examines the historical understanding of the relationship between human perception and noncorporeal intelligences, or spirits, treating the spirits as ontologically real for the purpose of analyzing the mechanisms of their perception. Drawing upon pre-modern sources from classical antiquity through the early modern period, the paper establishes a recurring pattern that spirit encounters are structured interactions mediated primarily by the human imaginative and cognitive faculties. By integrating these historical perspectives with the Spiritual and Psychological Models of Magick from the Grey School of Wizardry, the author proposes an operative model wherein noncorporeal influences are processed by the human mind, which then translates subtle impressions into consciously perceptible forms heavily conditioned by the perceiver's culture, beliefs, and biases. The paper addresses possible objections and concludes that this model accounts for the variety observed in spiritual experiences without reducing spirits to mere psychological constructs. Suggestions for further research and inquiry are identified.
