The Wizard's Walk Now Available
By Headmaster Kingsley

What kind of person does the study of Wizardry ask you to become?
That question stands at the heart of The Wizard’s Walk, the new book from GSW Press.
Written by Headmaster Nicholas Kingsley for those who mean to practice Wizardry with purpose, the book follows the path beyond first fascination and into the discipline of becoming. It considers how knowledge becomes conduct and how a chosen path is carried responsibly across a life.
Its concern is the patient work through which a Wizard is shaped. Across its pages, readers are invited to examine the habits and obligations that give the Walk its form. The result is a thoughtful companion for those beginning their study and those seeking greater depth in a practice already underway.
The Wizard’s Walk is now available in paperback on Amazon.
What Virtual Worlds Restore to Education
By Headmaster Kingsley

The Grey School presented at Virtual Worlds MOOC26!!
Headmaster Nicholas Kingsley gave a lecture titled “What Virtual Worlds Restore to Education” from the vGSW Lecture Hall as part of this year’s international Virtual Worlds MOOC. The session looked at what persistent virtual campuses can offer online education, particularly the sense of place, practical experience, and institutional presence that can be difficult to create through conventional online learning alone. A recording of the presentation is available at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFzadVJB1WI
First Castellan Named
By Headmaster Kingsley
Well met Wizards one and all,
I hope the day finds followers and friends alike in good health and high spirits!
Today, I have the great pleasure of announcing a first in the history of the Grey School of Wizardry, and indeed, the Trade and Order as a Whole.
Our first Castellan has stepped forward.
Apprentice Fred of the Waters Lodge has become the first member of the School to take up this lasting form of support and we are deeply, truly, humbled by his loyalty to our great school. In recognition of both the significance of his action and the place it will forever hold within our institutional history, he has thus been granted the unique formal title: First Castellan of the Order!
Future members who accept this charge will bear the title Castellan to the Order, reflecting their enduring commitment to the School and its continued work, as is proper, but let it be known that Apprentice Fred alone will bear the title First Castellan of the Order.
The use of "of" has been chosen here with great care, which I note now lest it be overlooked. Within our School’s formal traditions, "to" describes service directed toward an office, body, or institution. The word "of" in formal titles is reserved for those rare contributions that become part of the thing itself, entering its history and meaningfully expanding what it can accomplish. We see the same principle within the formal degrees of Wizardry, where the distinction is reserved for those whose work has left a lasting mark upon the Trade, those we call Adeptus.
By becoming the first Castellan, Apprentice Fred has done precisely that.
His action has given this School firmer ground beneath its feet. It strengthens our ability to plan responsibly, develop the next generation of Grey School education, expand our work through vGSW and GSW Press, and move toward the future with greater confidence. Much of what an institution becomes depends upon the moment when someone chooses to believe in its work strongly enough to help make that future possible. There is a valuable lesson within this moment. A single person’s decision can change the range of what becomes possible for an entire community, One act of confidence can give an institution the stability to move forward, and one person stepping ahead can make it easier for others to see that a path truly exists... Such is the power of the Wizard in Service.
In recognition of this Service to our School, along side his Formal Title, a ceremonial Castellan Key will be presented to him as the material emblem of this distinction. The key has belonged to Highspire Manor since the house was built in 1852 and carries with it a tangible piece of the Manor’s own history. By placing it in Fred’s hands, the School marks that his action has now entered that history as well. Highspire has endured because, across generations, people have chosen to preserve what mattered and prepare it for those who would come afterward. Through his support, Fred has helped secure the next chapter of the Grey School that now calls Highspire home. The Key therefore recognizes his lasting place within our history and the Castellan charge he has accepted toward our future.
The first Castellan has stepped forward, and because he has, others will see what one person can make possible and consider what part they, too, might choose to play.
On behalf of the Grey School of Wizardry, I offer Apprentice Fred our sincere gratitude and congratulations.
Let it be known now and hence forth.

A cheer of good fortune to,
Apprentice Fred, First Castellan of the Order, Prefect Emeritus to the Coterie of the Flowing Waters, Wizard in the Third Degree!

GSW Roadmap
By Headmaster Kingsley

Well met Wizards one and all,
I hope that the day finds everyone in good health and high spirits!
As another year of the Grey School’s work gathers momentum, I find myself looking beyond the immediate tasks upon our desks and toward the larger course now taking shape before us. I write to you from Highspire with that broader view in mind, and with some pleasure I highlight the Grey School of Wizardry’s updated Roadmap for 2026 through 2028.
Several years ago, we published a roadmap outlining the work we hoped to undertake between 2023 and 2025. Much of what appeared upon that document has since become part of the School we know today. Our virtual campus has grown considerably, the Psyche Program has taken form, our academic structures have undergone careful review, and GSW Press has been established. The School now possesses systems and opportunities that would have seemed remarkably ambitious only a few years ago.
The new roadmap begins from that foundation and looks toward the School’s next chapter.
During the remainder of 2026, our focus will remain upon preparation and alignment. We will continue the public conversation surrounding the School’s transition while expanding vGSW classes, lectures, and campus activity. School Site and vGSW account linking will continue as part of the academic foundation required for future advancement and graduation. Clearer advancement maps and stronger progress-tracking systems will also be developed so that pupils can better understand where they stand and what remains ahead of them.
At the same time, Faculty preparation, institutional policies, and the underlying infrastructure of the School will be refined in readiness for the Live Advancement Pathway. This work will take place alongside the continued development of The Scholarium, our campus systems, and several important projects through GSW Press.
Summer Term 2027 will mark the formal beginning of the Live Advancement Pathway for new Apprentices. Pupils entering through this model will attend live course sections, with offerings expanding across varied times as Faculty capacity grows. Written website lessons will remain an important part of study, though they will increasingly serve as homework, reference material, and preparation supporting the work conducted within live classes.
Teaching, discussion, guided practice, and feedback will take place primarily through direct human instruction. Recordings may remain available for review, while academic credit will ordinarily remain connected to live participation. Approved make-up paths may also be provided where a course and its circumstances allow for them.
Summer Term 2027 will also close the existing text-based Apprentice pathway to newly enrolling pupils. Those already studying within that structure will continue through the remainder of 2027 as part of a planned transition window. They will receive clearer guidance and academic planning as the School prepares them for the next stage of the change.
The Magister Program will remain primarily text-based, preserving a structured path for independent written study. A Scholar pathway will also provide selected School materials to readers who wish to study independently without assessment, academic credit, or formal advancement.
By Winter Term 2028, the remaining text-based Apprentices will move into the live model. Their completed coursework, accumulated credit, level progress, and standing will be recognized throughout the transition. From that point onward, the Live Advancement Pathway will serve as the School’s principal means of Apprentice advancement.
Reaching that point will require further growth in Faculty capacity, course scheduling, pupil support, and the systems that hold the School together. It is a substantial undertaking, though one that has become increasingly necessary as education changes and the limitations of long-term, text-only advancement become more apparent.
Beyond the central academic transition, our work will continue across the whole institution. We will pursue accreditation preparation with care, strengthen scholarships and donor support, and expand the School’s public education and partnerships. Highspire and vGSW will continue developing as active centers of Grey School culture, while our courses and resources are reviewed so that the knowledge preserved within them remains useful and worthy of those who come to study it.
This roadmap is a working vision. Its direction is clear, though its details may continue to develop as we learn what the transition requires. Some portions may move more quickly than expected, while others will call for patience or a better solution than the one first imagined. A roadmap should guide the journey without pretending that the road ahead has already been walked.
The Grey School has endured because those who care for it have repeatedly been willing to reconsider its methods while remaining faithful to its purpose. We are entering another such period now. The coming years will ask much from our Faculty, our pupils, and those who support the School beyond its classrooms. They will also offer us the opportunity to build something increasingly rare: a living institution where Wizardry is taught through sustained practice, thoughtful community, and direct human instruction.
I look forward to walking this next portion of the road with you, and to seeing what we will continue to build together.
Wizardly Regards,
Headmaster Kingsley ᛞ
The Grey School of Wizardry
September 2026 Astrological Forecast
By Grey Matters Staff
September begins with an emphasis on practical improvement before shifting toward deeper questions of identity, purpose, and relationships. Uranus turns retrograde, a New Moon encourages better habits, and the month concludes with a Full Moon that places independence and partnership under review.
Uranus Turns Retrograde on September 10
Uranus begins its annual retrograde cycle on September 10 and will remain retrograde until February 8, 2027. During this five-month period, the desire for freedom and change becomes more inwardly focused.
The days surrounding Uranus’s station may feel unsettled. Plans can change unexpectedly, and nervous tension may increase while we adjust to the planet’s shift in direction. It may be wise to leave extra room in schedules and avoid making impulsive decisions simply to escape discomfort.
New Moon in Virgo on September 10
Also on September 10, the New Moon in Virgo opens a productive period for improving daily life. Virgo favors organization, careful planning, useful work, and attention to health.
This New Moon is well suited to reviewing routines, correcting inefficient systems, and creating habits that can be maintained over time. It may inspire changes in the workplace, a renewed commitment to self-care, or a more organized approach to unfinished responsibilities.
Neptune Sextile Pluto on September 15
Neptune forms a sextile with Pluto on September 15, continuing a long-term series of aspects between Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius. This alignment will occur thirteen times through 2032, making it part of a broader cultural influence rather than a brief personal transit.
On a personal level, this influence may strengthen the desire to find meaning in ordinary life. Some people may become more interested in spiritual practice, creative work, social reform, or the motives that shape individual and collective behavior. Intuition may be stronger, but it should still be balanced with evidence and careful judgment.
Chiron Returns to Aries on September 17
Retrograde Chiron returns to Aries on September 17 for its final visit to the sign. Chiron began its retrograde in Taurus on August 3 and will turn direct on January 6, 2027. It remains in Aries until April 14, 2027, when it enters Taurus on a more consistent basis.
This return offers an opportunity to revisit unresolved matters connected with identity, confidence, courage, and self-assertion. Old insecurities may resurface, particularly those involving the right to take initiative, express anger, or pursue personal goals.
Full Moon in Aries on September 26
The Full Moon in Aries on September 26 brings questions of independence and partnership to a head. It may reveal where personal needs have been neglected or where the desire for autonomy has made cooperation more difficult.
Revelations may involve physical health, leadership, new beginnings, or close partnerships. Some people may recognize that they have surrendered too much control, while others may see that they have resisted reasonable support or collaboration.
Emotions can run high during an Aries Full Moon, but the energy can also provide the determination needed to address a problem directly. The goal is not to choose between independence and companionship. It is to establish a healthier balance between the two.
Overall, September favors deliberate improvements. The Virgo New Moon helps establish better systems, while Uranus and Chiron encourage an honest review of the internal obstacles that limit change. By the Aries Full Moon, the focus turns toward acting with greater confidence while remaining attentive to the needs of others.
